UJA Federation Visions Show 1995

"Jewish Visions by Women Artists" represents some examples of the perceptions of women as they connect Judaism and of the ways in which Judaism touches them as women. "This show is am important first in New York," said New York UJA-Federation President Louise Greilsheimer on the hanging of this exhibit. "We can learn from these three talented Jewish women artists, and grow with them as the express their personal visisons of Jewish faith, history and the Jewish female life cycle."

ELYSE TAYLOR sees her art as a direct reflection of her life. Her work "Growing" parallels her personal and artistic experience, the number of paintings increasing as she grows. Each incorporates various found and traditional materials, and each explores a passage in her life as a Jewish woman. Although "Growing" is autobiographical, Taylor says that she feels "it relates to everyone's growth experience."

"Jewish Visions by Women Artists" is a juried exhibit of women artists in the New York Metropolitan area. It is sponsered by the Building Art Committe in conjunction with Lilith, the independent Jewish women's magazine, which for 19 years has provided a showcase for the work of Jewish women artists exploring Jewish themes.
